Please Identify
Lens Subluxation
Lens subluxation occurs with partial disruption of the zonule fibers and often leads to monocular diplopia. Lens dislocation occurs when there is complete disruption of the zonule fibers. These injuries are most commonly the result of blunt trauma. Visual acuity will be decreased in the affected eye. The edge of the lens may be visualized if the pupil is dilated.
An ophthalmology consult should be obtained in the emergency department as treatment includes surgery.
Other injuries should be considered. Therefore, a complete eye exam should be performed. A CT scan of the head may be warranted as in the patient shown in the above image. The lens subluxation can be seen on the CT image of the left eye.
