My name is Monique Bushman. I grew up in a small Colorado ranching community, and went to college at University of Denver. My husband and I moved to New York City for medical school at Albert Einstein College of medicine where I had my daughter Gemma.
Ok now to the truly important stuff:
I’m from Oregon, I grew up in Milwaukee and pretty much lived in the providence Milwaukee ER. My mom was a registrar there and I would l go to work with her, until I was put to work as a volunteer at age 13. I stayed in Portland, OR for undergrad and medical school going to Portland state and OHSU. In my free time I like to hangout by the pool, BBQ, go rafting, hiking or pretty much do anything outdoors.
I grew up in Portland, Oregon and spent most of my childhood outdoors. While working as an interpreter in college I decided to go into medicine and ended up in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins. I love to hike, camp, and backpack. Please email me with any questions!
My name is Daniel Haase; I was born in the small German village of Das Weiner schnitzel. When I was five, my family moved to a small town in Idaho, or was it Iowa, well same difference. I grew up eating potatoes and running through the corn fields.
I am very excited to be living in the big city now. I love to drink and share my knowledge of Iowa with others. So if you want to know useless facts about the potato state shoot me an email.
I’ve lived in the northwest pretty much my entire life. But after a month long rotation during beautiful January in Phoenix, I decided to give the desert a try. I enjoy soccer, tennis, and am a total movie-holic/rock bank nerd. Although I am clearly not as creative as some of the other guys on this page biography-wise; I would be more than happy to answer any questions about phoenix, residency, or any thing else!
I am so excited to be back in the valley after “attending” medical school in Las Vegas; there were of course no distractions there. It is great to be able to call the Copa home after so many years of bringing patients here as a paramedic.
Although residency will be challenging I am looking forward to Arizona camping, hunting, and fishing again! We have a fun group of residents and attending s here, so feel free to contact me with any questions.
I grew up in Flagstaff 2 hours north of the Copa. I headed further west southern Cali from undergrad studying chemistry and French. I then had a short stint teaching high school French before heading to medical school at Tulane in New Orleans in between the hurricanes.
In my spare time I like to hang out with my dogs, run, hike, travel, cook and bake. In fact for Halloween every year I make an anatomically correct torso cake complete bilious liver and oozing heart. I am so thrilled to be back in Arizona. Please feel free to email me with any questions.
My name is Lauren Maeda, and I was born and raised in California where I spent most of my time surfing, fleeing wildfires, or in traffic mudslides. After attending UCSB, I decided to go to Hawaii for medical school because I have to admit I look really good in a grass skirt.
I am excited to be back on the “mainland” and use my collection of short boards. Shoot me an email if you have any questions, but most likely I’ll just respond with “we don’t do it like that in Hawaii.”
I grew up all over Wisconsin and Minnesota, attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison for undergrad and medical school. After getting my car stuck in my driveway after a blizzard this past winter, I decided that I’ve had just about enough of winter. I’m looking forward to 50 degree Januarys and the “dry heat” 110 degrees of July.
I love rock climbing, traveling, and pretty much any sport; although I should be banned from stepping foot on any basketball court. When I grow up I want to be Superman… but if that doesn’t work out, Aeromedicine is my back up plan for flying around saving lives. I think that x-ray vision would be the best super power for an emergency physician, although patients probably wouldn’t believe you when you told them that they didn’t have a broken bone.
“But Doc, how do you know it’s ok? Shouldn’t you do an x-ray?”
Maybe this wouldn’t be the best super power… Ill stick with flying.
I was born and raised in the great city of Chicago; where I have always enjoyed Chicago style pizza and Italian beefs. I decided to move when 50 degrees became standard for resumption of “shorts and sandals” during the brutal Chicago winters. In comparison, 60 degrees will bring out north face gear in Phoenix.
I have several hobbies: soccer, 16 inch softball, guitar hero, biking and occasional trips to the shooting range. During residency I hope to take up Latin dancing, ninja skills, hiking and professional power napping. Feel free to contact me with medical school/residency questions.
Things that make me me:
It all started in a little fishing village called Carmelo. Beautiful beaches, the occasional good surf and no worries obviously didn’t do it for me, so it was off to Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. After finally making it back to the lift, I was grabbed from the of by the mighty Albany Medical College. Thankfully I get to thaw for a few years in the desert.
I grew up in a small town in Maine but moved to DC for undergrad to escape the cold. Unsure of what I would do with a degree of Physics, I decided to think it over in the mountains of Utah. After running into a few free ski passes for the year I waited enough tables to make 100 a week for beer and food while living in an 8 by 10 room with two other strangers. At some point in my travels I decided to be a doctor so I returned to DC for Medical school in Georgetown. I’m super excited to be back out west with a great group of people at the copa feel free to e-mail me any questions.
I kicked off my undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma and stuck around for medical school. Ready to live somewhere that stayed warm all year, I came to the Copa. I enjoy being outside and trying to play just about any sport. My true talent is long distance running and I look forward to entering in the annual RAGNAR and helping the Copa ED win back the title. Three of the following four are true about me: I have been stung by a sting ray, slept on a park bench at 13, did my first airway as a boy scout at the age of eight with a pen and straw, and I walked onto the OU cross country team. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about Maricopa Emergency Medicine.
I entered this world via the Hershey Medical Center, wandered off to college at Penn Sate then found my way back to the Hershey Medical Center for med school. Needless to say everyone thought I was crazy to come to Phoenix for residency. As an avid "snow-hater" I think it was the smartest thing I've ever done. Once upon a time I worked for an amusement park, but when I got sick of helping people off their burning electric wheel chairs (true story) I made the obvious career move into the medical field. I love to travel, it's my belief that there are thousands, if not millions of people out there just waiting to meet me and I would hate to disappoint. If you are one of these individuals or simply have a question just shoot me an email, I'd be happy to help.
My home town is Littleton, Colorado where I grew up spending as much time as possible outdoors. I love snowboarding, wakeboarding, hunting, fly fishing, and spending time with my wife and kids. My undergraduate degree is in biochemistry from BYU and I went to medical school here in Phoenix. Maricopa's emergency department is awesome and I am happy to be here.
Hometown: Elkton, MD
Undergrad: University of Delaware
Med School: Drexel University College of Medicine
Hobbies/Sports: Tennis, football, basketball, bowling, watching movies, concerts and tailgating, hiking, camping and paintballing
Quote: "Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that %$*!..."--George Carlin
I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. I am a graduate of Creighton University School of Medicine and have been involved in EMS and Emergency Medicine for several years. I worked as an Army field medic for eight years and on the ambulance in the San Francisco Bay area as an EMT for 2 years and a Paramedic for 4years. It is truly awesome to be part of the best specialty in medicine! I am also really happy to be part of such a strong county program as Maricopa and to live in a place that is sunny and warm almost 359 days a year. I have particular interests in EMS, disaster medicine, Ultrasound, blues music, oil painting, movies by the Cohen brothers and anything of the single malt variety. If you like these things too or have a question about emergency medicine, feel free to email me anytime...
I'm from Phoenix originally and love it here. I had fun in Omaha, NE when I was at Creighton for med school but I am happy to be back and away from tornadoes and snow. Give me an email if you have any questions about the residency or if you agree that back to the Future III was the best of the trilogy.
I grew up in LA, went to college in upstate New York, and then went back to LA to work in TV and film. After being emotionally scarred by a Hollywood starlet, I fled to the mountains of Colorado to seek solace on the ski runs. After 4 long years of torturing tourists with my bus driving skills and spending summers living in my Jeep, I moved the show downslope to Boulder and then Denver for medical school. I spend my free time lounging by the pool, and occasionally going climbing or biking. I love being at the Copa and I'm happy to answer any and all questions you have, so feel free to email me.
I have lived in half the deserts of the United States. I started in the Chihuahuan desert, attending medical school at Texas Tech, and now enjoy the Sonoran during residency. Interesting, that I spend so much time in the desert, as my favorite past time is kayaking. I hope to visit the other two in the next few years.
I was born and raised in Venezuela and moved to the US when I was 18 to learn English. Shortly after that I decided that going to college and med school would not be such a bad idea. I have in California, Utah, Arkansas, Tennessee and now Arizona. Every where I have lived has been an amazing learning experience. In some places I learned English (or lack thereof), obtain my college education, and even how to make pancakes.

I am from Binghamton, NY and I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology from SUNY Albany. I studied Developmental Neurobiology at Stanford before attending medical school at the University of Colorado, Denver. I was an EMT and was involved in mountaineering search and rescue during graduate school. I hope to stay involved in search and rescue and prehospital medicine as much as possible during residency and beyond.
I am originally form Minnesota and completed my undergrad and medical education at the University of Minnesota. Moving to Arizona has been a great experience in my personal and professional life, although my true allegiance is to the Twins and Vikings. In my other life I was a tap dancer and ran into burning buildings. One of my aspirations is to get on my easy rider chopper and drive down Route 66. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
I'm from Chicago and will take 120 degrees over -20 degrees any day. My first trip to the emergency department came at age 3, when I stuck my foot in a mug of hot tea (my skin came off with the sock). My foot incurred further trauma this February in Costa Rica, courtesy of a mischievous sting ray that had strayed too close to shore. A marine biology student made the diagnosis and implemented proper treatment (immersion of my foot in as hot of water as I could tolerate, so as to denature the proteins in the sting ray venom), while six medical student scratched their heads and asked, "should we pee on it?". I coached gymnastics for 6 years, before going to med school in Peoria, Illinois, and I still do random back flips. I'm a huge Cubs fan, and you will never convince me that New York pizza is better than Chicago style. I love karaoke and spend most of my free time listening to Pearl Jam and correcting people's grammar.
