In cooperation with the Mayo Clinic Foundation, the Maricopa Emergency Medicine Department sponsors an EMS Fellowship. The program director, Dr. Ben Bobrow, MD, is an alumnus of the Maricopa EM Residency Program. Dr. Bobrow is the Medical Director of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, Arizona Department of Health Services and Medical Director for Scottsdale Fire Department.

A combination of Arizona Department of Health Services and Scottsdale Fire Department EMS will provide the bulk of the EMS experience. The fellow will be exposed to and participate in all aspects of EMS medical direction. The fellow can expect to gain a broad background in EMS research, education, and administration. Additionally, throughout the year, the fellow will develop and implement a novel pre-hospital research study and submit at least one manuscript to a peer reviewed journal. The fellow will also attend the annual meeting of the National Association of Emergency Medical Services Providers and will attend the Medical Directors course. The beginning of the fellowship will be structured to give the fellow a broad overview of the department. After this period of introduction, the fellow’s time will be spent on a variety of projects pertaining to the fellow’s interest, under the mentorship of the Medical Director.

Clinical time will be split between Mayo Hospital and Maricopa Medical Center where the fellow will serve as an attending physician, supervising residents and students as well as seeing some patients primarily. Additionally, the fellow will participate with the Maricopa EM Residency Program by providing educational talks to the faculty and residents.
