Phoenix Children’s Hospital has been here for 25 years. In 2002, it moved into it’s own separate building and became the only free standing Children’s Hospital in the State of Arizona. Today, Phoenix Children’s is one of the ten largest children’s hospitals in the country and provides specialty and sub-specialty inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care to patients throughout Arizona and other Southwestern states.
Phoenix Children’s offers world-class care in 40 sub-specialty fields of pediatric medicine and, most recently, has focused the development of its medical programs to build Centers of Excellence in neonatology, hematology/oncology, neurosciences, cardiac services, and orthopaedics.
In response to the explosive population growth expected in the metropolitan Phoenix region over the next decade, Phoenix Children’s recently announced a $588 million expansion plan. By 2030, the number of children in metro Phoenix is projected to increase to more than 1.5 million, compared to 900,000 today. The Valley does not have enough hospital beds to serve this escalating population of children. The Hospital’s response to this explosive population growth is a multi-phase expansion that will enable the Hospital to provide world-class care to the sickest kids in our community today and well into the future. The expansion includes an 11-story patient tower, which will increase the number of beds from 345 to 632 licensed beds by 2012.
The Emergency Department at Phoenix Children’s Hospital has an annual volume around 60,000 patients and is a level one trauma center. The Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship is sponsored by the PCH Pediatric residency, in affiliation with the Maricopa Emergency Medicine residency program, and offers the best of both sites.
