On March 1, over 80 residents, attendings, and private practice emergency physicians from all over the state took the capital by storm to discuss pending legislation that affects all of Arizona's physicians. The annual event, called ED Doc Day, is organized by the Arizona College of Emergency Physicians (AzCEP). Maricopa plays a major role in the event, from its multiple board-elected representatives who spend months of preparation organizing the event, to Maricopa's 40+ participants that helped set a new record for turnout. The series of small group and 1-on-1 meetings with dozens of members of the state senate and house helps put a face on the profession and gives our state lawmakers new perspectives on complex medical care issues. In addition to standing up for specific legislative issues, the event also gives doctors an opportunity to learn the inner workings of state government and acts as a stepping stone for future advocacy. This year's gathering was a huge success, and we can't wait to do it again next year!
