QT Prolongation: More than meets the eye

QT prolongation can be a result of either prolonged T wave or from elongation of ST segment.  Dr. Mattu walks us through a few differentials for each.

Prolonged QT from elongated T wave
  • Hypokalemia, Hypomagnesemia
  • Sodium channel blocking medications
  • Elevated ICP
  • Cardiac Ischemia
  • Congenital

Prolonged QT from elongated ST segment
  • Hypocalcemia
  • Hypothermia
