Congratulations to Dr. Kara Geren and Dr. Kimberly Chea on their recent Maricopa Medical Foundation grant!
We have recently been awarded a grant from the Maricopa Medical Foundation which will help fund our efforts to develop an Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution program, the first hospital-based program in Arizona. We will be launching a pilot program that allows physicians to prescribe take home naloxone kits to patients at risk for opiate overdose. Part of this pilot will study the efficacies of different educational interventions: written pamphlet vs. video education. This project has been a dedicated effort among many people including fellow resident Ashley Carter, ED pharmacists Aimee Mishler and Dan Hays, as well as our community partner, Haley Coles from Sonoran Prevention Works.
"Are you ready to train in a program tailored to excellence to help you develop as a leader in emergency medicine? Accept nothing but the best–as do we–from yourself and our program."
– Dr. Michael Epter, Program Director
